Matrix Switching 101
A matrix switcher gives you the ability to route any source to any display, or multiple displays, at any given time. They are typically manufactured with the same connector and source type on all inputs and outputs.
Matrix switchers are used in a variety of applications, anywhere from restaurants, churches, and corporate boardrooms. For example, a restaurant owner might have a DVD and a satellite feed coming into a matrix switch. They can select to have the DVD displayed on a projector in one room and the satellite signal can be displayed on multiple plasmas throughout the building.
Keep in mind that the outputs on a matrix switcher are usually not amplified. If you have a long cable run you may need a DA to avoid signal loss.
